Do not give people the responsibility of speaking to children if they are uncomfortable with them or if they have not a conviction about the value of children’s work. Ideally you should have prepared your Sunday school lesson well, in advance and be exactly sure of the route you will follow in order to impress your central lesson upon the children’s minds. It is easy to gauge whether you are being successful or not if you notice that the children are listening and they are not being distracted or are not paying attention. The reaction of the children is the best measure of your success. Have interesting illustrations to back up your points; do not shout and do not speak in an angry tone of voice. Smile betimes and look as if you are really interested in the children and enjoy what you are doing. ‘Connect’ with the children and occasionally give rewards for good behaviour and attention.
